The West Virginia Book Festival/Fair is Unfair

By Karl Priest (revised 10-7-19)

Karl’s note: The following is a complete chronological chain of communication. Explanatory notes are in red.

 Will Your Fair be Fair?

TO: sarah.mitchell@kanawhalibrary.org

5-5-19

Dear Ms. Mitchell:

For some reason, I have always thought of the  West Virginia Book Festival  as the West Virginia Book Fair.  (Fair being  defined by Webster.)  However, Webster's definition of "festival"  is fine.

Webster's definition of "festival" is closely related to a celebration.

I respectfully request that the folks who make the West Virginia Book Festival happen should be fair and truly celebrate diversity.  There is a book (mine) that has been censored and suppressed for almost ten years.  Here is  evidence to back up my claim.  Of particular interest to you should be item #5.  I did not note a memory of the day I had a begrudged booth at the "Festival" and unsuccessfully tried to get my book mentioned by the public address announcer who was plugging other books.

Since this is the 45th anniversary of the Kanawha County event that launched the national Culture War, the West Virginia Book Festival should make a special place for  PROTESTER VOICES--The 1974 Textbook Tea Party .

Sincerely,

Karl Priest

Dear Mr. Karl Priest,

The Book Festival Committee regrets to inform you that the West Virginia Book Festival is full. All applications for programming and marketplace were due in March. (Karl’s note: I had major surgery in March.) If you wish to be added to the wait list for the marketplace please submit an application.

Sincerely,

Sarah

Dear Ms. Mitchell,

Under the circumstances of the obvious censorship/suppression of Protester Voices—The 1974 Textbook Tea Party and the previous actions regarding the book by the WV Book Festival, it would be appropriate for the acceptance of my application at this point. I have a PowerPoint presentation that exposes the media and academia fake news and propaganda propagation that has slurred thousands of innocent citizens of our state.

Please send me an application.

Thank you.

Dear Ms. Mitchell,

Just to be clear, I am not requesting an application for a display table.

If the WV Book Festival’s featured authors (James Patterson, Salina Yoon, Orson Scott, Anthony Harkins, Meredith McCarroll, and Denise Kiernon) had to fill out an application—please send me the one they used.

Also, does the KCPL Board of Directors oversee the WV Book Festival?

Are you speaking on behalf of the board that oversees the WV Book Festival?

Thank you.

Karl Priest

Karl’s note: I did not receive a reply.

Hello:

Your contact information was obtained from the links provided at the West Virginia Book Festival  website under “Charter Presenters and Sponsors.”  I thought you would be interested in my request for the West Virginia Book Festival to display true liberal open-mindedness and take advantage of the 45th Anniversary of one of the major historical events in the history of West Virginia.

The details are explained in the email thread pasted below my name.

Please do your part to make this event happen.

Thank you.

May 17, 2019

Dear Mr. Priest,

Thank you for your email and information regarding your book.  The West Virginia Library Commission is a sponsor but is not involved in programming or marketplace decisions for the Book Festival. When time and space is limited due to the venue, it is hard to ensure all programming applications are accepted for an event.

Regards,

Heather

Dear Ms. Campbell:

Thank you for your response.

Will the West Virginia Library Commission take advantage of this opportunity to expose how the book PROTESTER VOICES--The 1974 Textbook Tea Party   that has been censored and suppressed for almost ten years.  Here is evidence to back up my claim.

I have a PowerPoint presentation that exposes the media and academia fake news and propaganda propagation that has slurred thousands of innocent citizens of our state.

How about it?

Thank you,

Karl Priest

Karl’s note: I did not receive a reply.

Karl’s note: Finally, I contacted the media.

May 20, 2019

Dear Member of the Media:

“Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.” John Adams

The fact is that you will either censor this Press Release/News Tip, report this Press Release/News Tip with a negative slant, or objectively report this Press Release/News Tip.

June marks the 45 th anniversary of a monumental historical event in West Virginia history. This event had national repercussions that effect the current Culture War.

Unfortunately, personal prejudices caused biased reporting and shoddy research that has defamed thousands of fine citizens of West Virginia.

This is your chance to set the record straight about the event known as the Kanawha County Textbook Protest.

On May 5 I sent the following request to the representative of the (October 4 & 5, 2019) West Virginia Book Festival:

There is a book (mine) that has been censored and suppressed for almost ten years.  Here is evidence to back up my claim .  Of particular interest to you should be item #5.  I did not note a memory of the day I had a begrudged booth at the "Festival" and unsuccessfully tried to get my book mentioned by the public address announcer who was plugging other books.

My request was declined with the excuse that the “applications for programming and marketplace were due in March.”

I replied:

Under the circumstances of the obvious censorship/suppression of Protester Voices—The 1974 Textbook Tea Party and the previous actions regarding the book by the WV Book Festival, it would be appropriate for the acceptance of my application at this point. I have a PowerPoint presentation that exposes the media and academia fake news and propaganda propagation that has slurred thousands of innocent citizens of our state.

I will provide a copy of the complete email communication chain upon your request.

I urge you, Media Member, to see the evidence to back up my claim at http://www.insectman.us/testimony/banned-book.htm. PLEASE pay particular attention to item #5 regarding the West Virginia Book Festival.

So, Media Member, what facts will result from how you handle this Press Release/News Tip?

Respectfully,

Karl Priest

Karl’s note: After thirty days I sent the following to the same members of the media.

FACTS

June 20, 2019

Dear Member of the Media:

The fact is that “Freedom of the press is guaranteed only to those who own one.”

The fact is that you censored my May 20 Press Release/News Tip.

The fact is that objective truth seekers are not surprised at the censorship.

If you have any facts to dispute the facts above, please share them.

Sincerely,

Karl Priest

P.S.: I have facts related to Marshall University’s censorship of the Textbook Protest FACTS. If you want to see them, just ask.

Karl’s note: I did not receive any replies.

See “Mainstream Media Exposed.”

---------------------------

Karl’s note: On 10-5-2019 I spent 1:00-3:00 PM at the West Virginia Book Festival, with my “Banned Book” signs hanging on my back and front, leading up to a speech by the famous author James Patterson. No one from the West Virginia Book Festival approached me. There were three shows of support and several questions. I encouraged folks to take a photo of my sign and visit the website. I said, “Even if you don’t agree with me, it will make you think.” Here are some photos. The bottom one is what a young lady showed me on her phone. It is a picture of her grandmother who was in the protest. Her grandmother is one of the peaceful protesters who have been slurred since 1974. The picture speaks for itself. See more like her at this Textbook War video.
