YOUR ASSIGNMENT ON THE GOSPEL SHIP

By Karl C. Priest January 1, 2023

I served aboard a United States Navy ship that had a crew of 1,200. Very few (around 50) of the crewmembers had assignments (jobs) that most people would consider important like the captain, radiomen, gunners mates, and hospital corpsmen. Most had assignments such as cooks, mechanics, dish washers, clerks, and laundry workers.

The Bible lists assignments (gifts) given to Christians in Romans 12:3-16, I Corinthians 12, and Ephesians 4:1-12.

Many Christians consider some of those “assignments,” such as prophecy, healing, and pastors, as more important than others, But, the other assignments” are vital to the Church. Some of them are teaching, giving, exhorting (encouraging), showing mercy (being kind), helping, and ministering (attending to needs).

You, like every Christian, have an assignment. It is very important to fulfill your assignment to the utmost best of your ability. Also, it is very, very important that you do not go AWOL.

The United States Navy has various ships such as cruisers, destroyers, and aircraft carriers. But, it has ships that are important, but not as well-known such as supply ships and oilers. To fight the spiritual warfare we are in, each spiritual ship (usually, a church) needs a full and dedicated crew.
